Our Projects


Refugee camp schools
BEP helped establish two schools in refugee camps and has been involved with their ongoing support.  

Special Educational Needs units
BEP in conjunction with World Education has established two units for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in the refugee camps. BEP will continue to support SEN developments.

Volunteer teacher programme

BEP has provided a volunteer programme taking over forty volunteer teachers from the UK to work in the Karen refugee camps and migrant schools . BEP has been involved in:
1. Providing teams of volunteers for English Language Summer Schools
2. Providing teachers and teacher trainers for individual placements.

BEP will continue this volunteer programme.

In 2008 BEP has:

• established a Mobile Teacher Unit to provide English teachers for the scattered migrant schools in the Mae Sot area
• developed teacher training materials  to be translated into Karen
• supported the development of a Higher Education programme in the refugee camps
• looked at ways of supporting first language literacy development.
