Up to now we have been involved in four types of placement: 1. Short coures at Easter This entails sending four or five teachers into a camp to provide an English language summer school for a week for young people aged 16-25.These Easter courses are linked to schools which receive some financial support from BEP. The programme is delivered at Easter and we receive a lot of support from teachers in the UK as they can deliver something quite focused in a short period. 2. Longer term teaching This has been a much more recent development and has involved the teaching of English in camp and migrant schools. Currently we have a number of requests for teachers of English to work in Thailand for at least three months. This is especially suitable for someone with an EFL background/qualification.

3. Short term specialist input There are a range of ways in which this is useful; It might involve perhaps working with a number of groups of teachers for up to two weeks on something specific. Some examples are: • basic teacher training [lesson planning and structure, classroom management etc] • aspects of a subject specialism [maths and science are in great demand] or how a skills based approach to the development of literacy is used in England • school governance-for example how accountability features in the governance of English schools • techniques and considerations when working with children with Special Educational Needs • how to develop thinking skills within a subject area
In other words short focused presentations / courses / workshops addressing a specific aspect of education aimed at practising teachers. The demand is wide and varied. Most teachers can offer an aspect of their specialist subject which would be useful. This could be negotiated through discussion with someone from BEP and the target group in Thailand. This may involve working in an individual placement or as part of a group of British teachers delivering a short course.
